We’ve had a Toys for Tots box in the foyer of our office for a few weeks. There is a big banner flying on the railing outside our office and a sign pitched in just the right spot in the flower bed so it will be lit up by our Christmas spotlight. Every day I take a peek into the box to see how we’re doing and every day it is still empty. We decorated the box with shiny red ribbon and bows so it would show up. Still no toys had appeared. This weekend I decided to place it outside our front door so passers-by would see it. jAlas. Empty as ever on Monday.
Today I did a little shopping of my own and picked up a couple toys for the box. (It’s called the old “priming the pump” technique.) “Surely this will send a message to all the people working in this building”, I thought.
What do you know, when I returned to the office with my “seed toys” I discovered the box was almost full!! In my absence of only 3 hours, some of Ridgefield’s generous “elves” had magically filled the box with Christmas joy for some of our precious needy children.
I love this town.
